Turtles and Lizards Wholesale!

Turtles and lizards are some of the most interesting creatures on the planet, so it’s no wonder people like to care for them as pets. In fact, the average lifespan of a turtle can be 20 or even 40 years depending on the species. Of course, this means that caring for turtles and lizards means a lifelong commitment to making sure they’re happy and healthy.

These animals are cold-blooded, so the first thing you need to make sure is that their enclosure has the means of controlling the temperature by way of heat lamps and pools of water that the animal can cool off in. Some kinds of turtles actually need a large enough enclosure to swim and wade around in. Depending on the breed and species, different turtles might need different environments, and this can also apply to food.

Commercial pelleted food specifically intended for turtles is made to float in the water and not fall apart as easily as other pelleted food, making it ideal for part of a turtle’s diet. Apart from this, a turtle should be fed a number of different things since a varied diet tends to be a healthier one. Some examples of different turtle feed includes feeder fish, insects, fruits and vegetables, the latter being where their main source of nutrients should come from. The rule of thumb is that they need sources of protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals, especially calcium due to the extra needs in their shells. And just as important as knowing what should go in your turtle, you should also make sure you know what not to feed your turtle. While turtles are known to tolerate most things, many recommend to keep them away from known poisonous plants such as leaves of rhubarb, potato and tobacco plants, avocado peel, seeds and leaves, tomato leaves and vines, and poison ivy.
