One of the most interesting species of geckos that Strictly Reptiles provides is the beautiful and exotic Leopard Gecko, or more popularly known as the Jungle Leopard Gecko. The Jungle Leopard Gecko originates from the highlands of central Asia. The countries that comprise the region that the Jungle Leopard Gecko lives are Afghanistan, Pakistan, and certain parts of northern India. One the interesting parts of the Jungle Leopard Gecko anatomy is that it has movable eyelids which are extremely rare for most geckos. The natural environment for the Jungle Leopard Gecko is a dry and rocky desert climate that is found throughout central Asia.
The main diet for the Jungle Leopard Gecko consists of mealworms, crickets, roaches, and other types of insects. It is very important to make sure that you buy live insects to feed your Jungle Leopard Gecko because the vast majority of them will prefer to hunt for their food and will typically refuse to eat already dead insects. The Jungle Leopard Gecko will eat until it is full and will leave the remaining insects alive in its tank. This can become problematic for the Jungle Leopard Gecko, especially if the insects that are left are crickets since crickets tend to nibble at the gecko’s tail.
The Leopard Gecko is bigger than other gecko species. Adult geckos reach lengths typically between 20.5 to 27.5 cm and usually weigh between 45 to 65 grams. Their skin is very durable because of the harsh, rocky desert conditions in its native habit. An adult Jungle Leopard Gecko will shed its skin once a month and juveniles will typically shed twice a month. In the days before they shed their skin, the Leopard Gecko will turn into a grey whitish color that is translucent.
